Maple Leafs vs. Blue Jackets NHL Pick – October 4th

Even the Toronto Maple Leafs head after opening the season with a win over the Ottawa Senators.

When that game was won by the Senators, the alarm bells could have been ringing quickly. Ottawa struck quickly using Brady Tkachuk pushing a feed in front of Frederik Andersen to start the scoring. That set off terror manner in Leafs Nation.
Not to worry, though, this really is really a Toronto team that can score in a hurry and erase deficits. Thats exactly what happened, since the Leafs constructed up a 5-2 lead to settle for a 5-3 win against the Sens. The Senators are going to be better than last season, but theres still a lot of work left to be accomplished there.
The night didnt go with no controversy because of the Leafs. So that put off criticism levied at Mike Babcock veteran Jason Spezza was scratched in the lineup. For Spezza is a Toronto dreamed of this chance to play with the Leafs and neighborhood. He got the call against Kyle Dubas to come sign a contract to play Toronto, however, Babcock has not appeared to be thrilled with the transfer.
He had been so upset that Spezza got scraped for Nick Shore. Spezza is going to maintain a rotation all season, so him becoming away will occur. However, with family in the game and an opportunity to start the season against his former team it was kind of a low blow by Babcock.
Having said that the Leafs won Spezza and the game will be in the lineup against the Blue Jackets in Columbus this evening. The complaint of Spezza of babcock has to do with his ability, or lack thereof, to kill penalties. Spezza is old and has lost a step, so its warranted, but benching him only to start tonight to him instead of the other way round is baffling. The Blue Jackets will be down some bits from last year, so its going to be interesting this team resembles in 2019-20. Head below for our free Maple Leafs vs. Blue Hats pick.
Last night for going all-in, you cant mistake the Jackets, however they may cover this season and beyond. The Jackets exchanged for Ryan Dzingel and Matt Duchene at the trade deadline to set up a playoff run. After blowing a series lead they did wind up doing well, but were finally taken out of the postseason. Dzingel and duchene are gone. In addition to Duchene and Dzingel, the Jackets said goodbye to prospects in the deal so its far more than simply Duchene and Dzingel from the grand scheme of things.
The Blue Jackets also lost Artemi Panarin into the New York Rangers, along with goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky into the Florida Panthers. The many hurt and are currently going to be felt this season. Rather than earning a few prospects, columbus had all these contracts that are expiring and made a decision to make a run. They got rid of prospects rather.
Joonas Korpisalo was called the starting goaltender for the Jackets. Korpisalo is a critical drop away from Bobrovskys equilibrium involving the pipes. They move from an All-Star to a 25-year-old who hasnt had a standout season thus far. As a copy to Bobrovsky, Korpisalo submitted a 2.95 GAA and 0.897 save percentage. Hes had a 0.897 spare percent the last two seasons, in order thats consistent. Not the type of consistency the Jackets need to find this year.
This does not seem to be a good matchup for the Blue Jackets. With a lot of the firepower theyd last season, the Jackets are likely to need to experiment with unique lines on. Im under the belief that the Leafs must be heavily favoured in this matchup. As long as the Jackets arent taken by them lightly, theyre likely to come from Friday night with a victory to begin the year at 2-0-0.
